Serving in the Shadows

One of 120 men at the Vietnamese Congregation of the Mother Coredemptrix
Roman Catholic seminary, Brother Justin Ky is a quiet, 29-year-old who immigrated to the United States six years ago.

After hearing "a very special call in my life," Ky committed himself to serving God five years ago. He spends most of his days in prayer and meditation as he waits on God's call for him to be a priest.

Brother Justin Ky checks his watch as he readies to ring a bell calling everyone to morning Mass at the Congregation of the Mother Coredemptrix in Carthage, MO. The men at the Vietnamese seminary adhere to a strict schedule, with much of the day spent in prayer and meditation. Ky uses the telephone's intercom system so the bell is heard throughout the entire campus.
